Slow Birding will be offered this year as part of North Branch Nature Center's professional development week for teachers called the ECO Summer Institute, Level 2. This is a five-day nature immersion course for elementary teachers, assistants, aides, and administrators. During the week, a leadership team of professional nature immersion specialists guides teachers in the direct application of outdoor classroom routines as well as ways to incorporate NGSS and Common Core into those routines.
Slow Birding combines the work of Donald & Lillian Stokes when it comes to bird behavior and Jon Young & Dan Gardoqui's work on bird language. We'll be learning how to slow down and develop a deeper connection to birds, a deeper observation skill set, and build a foundation for deeper citizen science.
